I am proud to say that I have been responsible for some incredible events
and programs that benefit our school, children, and families.
Thank you to the individuals and community organizations that make this work possible.
Monster Mash 2024
An annual Halloween School Dance that is a tradition for Killarney. This event is a partnership with myself and the Killarney PTA, for which I am also acting and serving as the recording secretary.
Open House 2024
Open House provides parents and families an opportunity to visit the school, see the classrooms, and connect with school and community partners. We provided valuable resources to our families, gave away free pizza courtesy of First United Methodist Church of Winter Park, and I helped parents with online access to school services and information. I was responsible for planning and executing this event, coordinating vendors, and managing donations.
Meet the Teacher 2024
Meet the Teacher is Killarney’s back-to-school event where families are invited to meet the new school year’s teachers and staff. I was responsible for planning and executing the event, as well as securing donations. We gave away free backpacks and school supplies to every student that asked for one. I also secured a partnership with Calvary Church who distributed food and household supplies to all of our families. Our partnership with First Uniter Methodist Church of Winter Park helped us give out free pizza and lemonade to families who attended.
Crockpot Ministries
In partnership with St. Dorothy’s Catholic Community, we have offered two cooking classes for homeless families that provide education on things like maximizing your EBT budget, preparing nutritious meals, and cooking with a crockpot. Our second class was offered in English and Spanish. Every family that attends gets to take home a brand new crockpot to keep. Many of our families live in hotels or homes that do not have full kitchen access.
Parent and Family Engagement Showcase 2024
Presented on behalf of Killarney Elementary. This year we showcased our coordination with Karen Mapp’s 4C’s of the Dual Capacity-Building Framework for family engagement.
Art and Music Night 2024
Art and Music Night is a project that I started as an initiative to improve family engagement post-Covid shutdowns. The music and art teachers coordinate performances and presentations, and families are invited to attend the Spring Book Fair in the library. We also invite community partners, such as College Park Middle School and the 4Roots fresh produce mobile market.
Family Literacy Night 2024
Killarney Reading night is one of my annual Title I events and occurs in January alongside National Literacy Week. This year’s theme was “Blast off into Reading” and I created space-themed games and activities for students in grades K-5. We practiced vocabulary, fluency, phonics, and other literacy skills. With the help of First United Methodist Church of Winter Park, we provided pizza, lemonade, and prizes at no cost. We raffled off 16 sunshine state books to students for free as a door prize. Attendance for this event was approximately 150 guests.
All food, volunteers, and decorations were donated courtesy of local partners in education. Special thanks to First United Methodist Church of Winter Park and St. John’s Lutheran.
Winter Park High School at Killarney Elementary
It has become a tradition for Winter Park High students to visit Killarney with donations of gifts. We visit every classroom and each student receives a present.
Math Night 2023
Killarney Math night is one of my annual Title I events and this year was “Wild About Math”! We created six original jungle-themed math games and activities for students grades K-5. We provided pizza, lemonade, and prizes at no cost. As a door prize, we raffled off $25 and $50 gift cards for Target, Walmart, and Publix. All food, volunteers, and decorations were donated courtesy of local partners in education.
Shopping at Target with the Nobilo Foundation
The Nobilo Foundation hosted a holiday shopping experience at Target for 50 of our students experiencing homelessness. Each student was able to shop for themselves and spend up to $120. It was a magical day!
